For Preventive Maintenance Schedule Type: Floating or Fixed?
COGZ Preventive Maintenance Software offers you two scheduling types for your preventive maintenance tasks. For the bulk of your tasks, you will probably utilize the floating type as that is the best type to use for tasks that need to be completed on a regular basis. If you have a task that needs to be completed on a specific date, use the fixed type. The information below will give you a little more detail into each type so you can make a clearer decision when setting up your preventive maintenance tasks for your equipment.
Floating: Floating schedules are based on the last date done and the frequency in days. If the task is performed later than expected it will schedule the next time around according to the date it was actually performed. Floating schedules are useful for tasks with shorter intervals between them, such as one week or one month. For example, if a weekly task is due on January 5th and is not done until January 17th, the next due date will be January 24th.
Fixed: Fixed schedules are based on the last date scheduled and the frequency in days. Fixed schedules do not take into account the last date done. Fixed scheduling is primarily intended for tasks with large intervals between them, for example, tasks that occur only once per year. It is not recommended that you use fixed scheduling for tasks that are to be performed frequently because if you miss a task date you will need to make up for the ones not completed. For example, if a weekly task is due on January 5th and is not done until January 17th, the next due date will be January 12th.
A consideration when using fixed scheduling is that when preventive maintenance tasks are scheduled by meters (with fixed as the backup) the last fixed date done will not be updated. Notification of this will pop up when you close this type of work order.
To make your schedule type selection, simply use the Preventive Maintenance Task Form in the PM Task tab of the Equipment List when you are setting up your preventive maintenance tasks.
Additional information on COGZ Fixed or Floating Schedule types can be found in the COGZ Manual under Date Scheduling in the Equipment List section.
